ANM(R) is a two-year nursing programme primarily focused on community healthcare, maternal care, child healthcare, basic nursing, health education and rural health services.

Based on the latest eligibility rules, only female candidates are eligible for the ANM(R) course.

After completing the course and required registration, ANM-qualified candidates may work in community health centres, primary health centres, maternity centres, clinics, nursing homes and public health programmes.

GNM—General Nursing and Midwifery

GNM is a three-year nursing programme that provides broader training in general nursing, patient care, community health, midwifery and clinical practice.

Both male and female candidates are generally eligible for GNM admission, subject to seat availability and the conditions specified in the official notification.

GNM-qualified candidates may work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, community healthcare organisations and other healthcare institutions after completing the required registration process.

Expected ANM/GNM 2027 Eligibility Criteria

The following requirements are based on the latest available examination cycle and may be revised for 2027.

Nationality and domicile

The candidate should:

Be a citizen of India. Fulfil the West Bengal domicile or permanent-residence conditions specified by WBJEEB. Possess the prescribed domicile certificate at the time of counselling. Age requirement The candidate is expected to be at least 17 years old by 31 December 2027. The latest pattern did not prescribe an upper age limit. Educational qualification

Candidates are generally required to:

Pass Class 12 or an equivalent 10+2 examination from a recognised board or council. Obtain at least 40% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination. Pass English as one of the subjects. Produce the final Class 12 marksheet before admission.

Candidates appearing in the Class 12 examination may be permitted to apply provisionally, provided they satisfy all admission requirements within the official deadline.

Language requirement

Life Science and Physical Science together carry 75 out of 115 marks. Therefore, students should devote a major part of their preparation time to these two subjects.

ANM/GNM Marking Scheme Category 1: Single correct answer

Each Category 1 question has only one correct answer.

A mock test becomes useful only when it is properly analysed.

A score target used during preparation does not guarantee a particular college because admission cut-offs change according to category, rank, seat availability, college preference and the difficulty of the examination.

OMR and Examination-Hall Strategy Read the complete question before checking the options. Attempt direct and familiar questions first. Avoid blind guessing in Category 1 because of negative marking. In Category 2, select an option only when you are confident that it is correct. Do not leave the entire OMR-filling process until the last minute. Fill bubbles neatly with the pen prescribed by WBJEEB. Do not use ticks, crosses, partial marks or overwriting on the OMR sheet. No. As of 11 August 2026, WBJEEB has not published the official ANM/GNM 2027 Information Bulletin.

Can male candidates apply for ANM?

No. Based on the latest rules, ANM(R) is available only to female candidates.

Can male candidates apply for GNM?

Yes. Both male and female candidates are generally eligible for GNM, subject to the official seat and admission conditions.

Can Arts or Commerce students apply?

The latest West Bengal eligibility pattern did not restrict application only to PCB students. However, candidates must satisfy the Class 12, English, marks, domicile and other conditions stated in the official bulletin.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. Category 1 questions generally carry a negative mark of 0.25 for an incorrect answer. Category 2 follows a different partial-marking system.

Which subject is most important?

Life Science carries 50 marks, the highest weightage. Physical Science carries another 25 marks. Together, these subjects account for 75 out of 115 marks.

Are previous-year papers useful?

Yes. They help students understand question patterns, important concepts, difficulty level and time management.

How many hours should a beginner study?
